Bunch Of Geeks

We're a diverse group here at 5points.net. We have many different backgrounds, interests, talents and forms of education.

But we all share certain common values and attitudes. Principal among them are a desire for excellence, a deep appreciation of the unusual and quirky, and a commitment to invest ourselves personally in whatever we do. We are all proud to be geeks.

geek (gk) n.

A person with above-average IQ who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits
A person who has chosen concentration rather than conformity
A person with an unusual or odd personality
A person who did not go to their high school prom and would be offended by the suggestion that they should have even wanted to

We would add to these definitions certain other attributes:

Some degree of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)
Knowing what's really important and interesting while not caring to be distracted by trivial chatter and silly status games
Spending too much time indoors in front of a computer screen, watching science fiction reruns or with their faces in a book
Will spend endless hours thinking about and discussing new ways to use emerging new technologies/devices
Actually read equipment manuals and often critique them
High caffeine consumption until their cardiologists tell them to stop (for the older geeks)

We even have a geeky (adj.) little dog: Lepton. For the non-geeks out there, leptons are elementary particles that are light weight and move rapidly which is perfect for our OCD Maltese.
