History

5points.net has been providing Internet solutions to businesses and organizations since 1997. Its owners, Frank and Lynn Peseckis, were originally research scientists in physics and seismology, with undergraduate degrees from MIT and Boston University and graduate degrees from Columbia University.

Given Frank and Lynn's scientific training, requisite computer programming, and use of ARPANET (the Advanced Research Projects Agency network) for research, specializing in Internet and Intranet sites that rely on database functionality and programming was an automatic and natural progression.

Our headquarters are located in an historic inn in East Chatham, New York, on the old Albany to Stockbridge turnpike which was a stagecoach road in the early 19th century. After the Civil War a third floor was added and it was renamed The Sheridan House after General Philip Sheridan, a local Civil War hero. In the latter part of the 20th Century, the third floor was removed and The Sheridan House became a well-known "watering hole" where many of the local folks had their first drink.

The building had been closed for several years when Frank and Lynn bought it in 1986, completely renovated it and opened a gallery for contemporary art. Their real space gallery flourished for ten years and as their interests evolved so did the direction of their professional pursuits.

Frank Peseckis was always interested in the similarities of the creative process in science and in the arts and decided, after the real space gallery closed, to create a web site devoted to collaborations between artists and scientists. The site won several awards and was noted on the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) web site. People began inquiring if Frank would design sites for them and so 5points.net was formed.

For the curious, our company's name derives from the historical name for the hamlet of East Chatham, Five Points, at the intersection of five roads. Devotees of obscure information may delight in the fact that it was also the name of a most notorious slum in early 19th century America, located in what is now lower Manhattan.

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
